Anna Papierz began to play her instrument at the age of 12 in an After-school Education Centre in the city of Poniatowa.

She is this year’s graduate from cello class of Bożena Czerkies in the Tadeusz Szeligowski Primary and Secondary Music School in Lublin.

She participated numerous times in master classes and workshops under the tutelage of Polish teachers, including T. Strahl, S. Firlej and R. Jabłoński.

Anna Papierz is the laureate of the Zdzisława Wojciechowska National Cello Confrontations and a Special Prize winner at the 6th Lublin Tournament of Music and Knowledge.

In the years 2008-2012 she received scholarships from the President of the city of Lublin.

The school orchestra, which undergoes various metamorphoses due to continuous rotation of students, is led by Iwona Borcuch since 1991.

For the past seven years, the orchestra has been playing concerts with various soloists at the Lublin Philharmonic. Works performed include Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”, Liszt’s piano concertos in E-flat major and in A major, Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Chopin’s Piano Concerto in F minor and Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto in D minor.
The orchestra also performs vocal works. Its 10th anniversary was celebrated in the Lublin cathedral with a performance of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. The orchestra was conducted by Iwona Borcuch and the featured guest was Urszula Kryger.

Apart from concerts, the orchestra also takes part in many festivals and competitions in Poland and abroad. Its greatest achievements include 2nd prize at the International Orchestra Competition in Nyíregyháza (Hungary,1993) and 3rd prize at the competition in Jeseník (Czech Republic, 1996), 1st prize and grand prix (Summa Cum Laude) at the Young Musicians’ Festival in Neerpelt (Belgium, 2000), 1st prize at the Young Musicians’ Festival in Neerpelt (Belgium) and performance in the concert celebrating the festival’s 50th anniversary (2001). The orchestra was selected from 57 ensembles from all over the world. During the festival it played for the Queen of Belgium. At the same festival, the orchestra also won 2nd prizes in 2006 and 2008.

The ensemble not only takes part in various competitions and festivals, but also accepts invitations to perform in various institutions, including the Lublin City Hall, Hospice of the Little Prince in Lublin and in a number of elementary schools as part of the “Music Matinee” music promotion program.

Iwona Borcuch - dyrygentIwona Borcuch is the conductor of the Orchestra in the Tadeusz Szeligowski Primary and Secondary Music School in Lublin.

She studied in Academies of Music in Łódź and in Katowice, obtaining her diploma in choral conducting and piano.

To face the challenge of today’s management requirements, she has completed a three-semester Post-graduate Programme of Cultural and Teaching Institution Management in Wrocław.

She refined her conducting skills under the direction of maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk.

She has been conducting the school orchestra since 1991 with unflagging enthusiasm.
For her teaching and artistic activity, Iwona Borcuch received the School Principal’s award and the prize of the President of the City of Lublin (twice).
Iwona Borcuch is the President of the “Muzyka” Association since 2004. The Association operates to support the Tadeusz Szeligowski Primary and Secondary Music School in Lublin by providing financial assistance to musically talented students, purchasing instruments, supplying music stands to rehearsal rooms etc.
